Forecast for wind and weather for Friday, June 5, 2026

Not much happening on the lake today Thursday. Some wind in the morning, but then it died.

The forecast is predicting that two low pressure system are heading our way. The first system has arrived and will leave towards Friday evening. Tofino is expecting periods of rain and Port Alberni is expecting showers. The temperature difference between the two stations is only 1C.

Bottom Line: Similar as today Thursday. A light to moderate SW wind will push up the valley together with periods of rain.

Outlook: The low will exit to the SE on Friday night. We may see some clearing on Saturday, however the temperature difference is minimal, not enough to drive the wind engine. The next low will arrive Sunday evening. Expect rain for Monday and Tuesday, clearing on Wednesday.

Here is the good news. A strong ridge is building and strengthening on Wednesday. A strong ridge means warm weather and great thermal conditions.

Great temperature comparison graph, how was this generated?  And have you tried Bamfield/Port Alberni and if so is there a deviation?

I am looking at the hourly forecast from Environment Canada for the two stations, Tofino and Port Alberni.
As for picking Bamfield instead of Tofino, the only reason why I have not switched to Bamfield is because I have 2 years worth of data comparing Tofino to Port Alberni. At the beginning of this year I was wondering if I should switch, but have decided to preserve the integrity of the data and stay with Tofino.

Quick follow up, I just crunched the initial data for tomorrow Friday, Tofino and Bamfield report the exact same temperatures. So, I am not convinced that it is worth switching and muddy up the data.
