Took a cab out to Pacasmayo today with my Brazilian and South African friends I met down here. We’d been hearing about this place—more wind, more swell—but no real details. Just hearsay.

There wasn’t much going on in Chicama, so we loaded up all the gear and made the call.

About an hour and a half later—after getting lost a couple times—we finally made it to the lighthouse.

And yeah… there was definitely more swell. The wave looked punchy. But the wind? Super light. Probably sub 12 knots, acc ... (more)

Post windsurf wingfoil training in the bay. Super gusty at first made it a bit challenging, but then wind became more steady. Lots of awkward interpretive-dance wipeouts as I attempted foiling gybes. No success there, and just a few completed non-foil gybes. Came in when DavidM left and I was the only one out there. Good thing though since my arms were more tired than I realized. Beautiful day in paradise. Only one sea lion encounter. Training hours 12.75 - 14.5. I feel like I should be better by now!

With strong NW still blowing, tried for a repeat of last night's flat water fun - not quite.

Some foiling in the gusts, but sadly there was just as many lulls that had me floating.

Should have trusted my instincts and gone to Singing Sands- oh well, still out on the water, so it counts.

bit of a wait while it switched from southerly to westerly but it filled in nicely. decent power but could've flown a 10m.. saw Lee and a few others launching 12m which would've been a bit much! nursing a tight lower back so kept it easy slashy on the surfboard.

Got there early to hit some moderate wind/sea, and avoided the big dip in wind that happened as is switched from SW to W. Pretty lit on the 3.5 sometimes, but fun and manageable. Conditions were nice. Was out for less than an hour. Still falling in and climbing on, uses up most of the energy. Definitely have some big holes in the foiling skill set.

part 2 after the wind shift was not pretty. Wind was very unstable. I couldn't get going on the 4.3, then the wind started to oscillate from OP'd to UP'd. Tried the 3m and same results. Back to the 4.3, a couple slides and rides and then called it.

Beautiful sunny session! I had an hour slightly op'd on my 4. I came in for a break right before the wind disappeared then headed back out when it returned, and shifted more to the west. I did gybes on both starboard and port for the first time - I need to learn to get comfortable riding toe side! All in all another sweet RB day.

After it filled back in this time more NW I reversed walk of shamed it up to the boat house and launched from there. Took a lot of struggling in the gusty wind and corky 60L but there were some of my best moments on the para so far. One handed wad and swooping turns on steep swell made up for the ongoing struggle. Part2 of 2 sessions and Mike (windjunky's) Spitfire 900 front foil. 1st session beautiful weather, nice big groomed swell on the lower section, tons of wingers, a few pwings and kiters. Halftime break due to wind sag and switch from SSW over to W, took about an hour of chatting and lounging about in the sun, finally kicked back in around 4:30. Much of the crew had abandoned by this point, but still some waiting for part deux and other just showing up. Perfect way to end the beautiful looong weekend!

Tried out the 680HA front wing for the first time in a while. After an hour I was starting to get it dialled in. Awesome riding waist high waves on it. Agree with Tweezer's description of conditions after the wind switched west; big time struggle train for me, underpowered in steep chop. Probably should have rigged the 4.5m. Best part of the day was seeing the return of Gus and the stoke on his face on the water. Dude didn't look rusty at all after not foiling for a year and a half!!! =D>

I needed a bit less wind. Willows showed occasional caps and Gord said to go 5m. I was about to go 5, then winds reduced so I went 6m. Good thing. By the time I got on the water it was less than 10kts. I should've went with a bigger foil too. Luckily I got some wind beyond the bay and lifted. Short-lived though. No steady winds. Just gusts to get you up and then you needed to pump and chase the next gust. I got tired and ended it. The good winds returned as I left. Meh.

Choice spring brilliance! I quickly rigged 4m to try and avoid the upcoming nuking in the forecast. Too late. I was immediately OP'd and got too intimidated by the bigger swell outside. Luckily there was fine swell right in the bay, so I just did some quick jibes and rode the inside waves. No shortage of wind power for jibes. Stoked vibe out there and it was great to see Z foiling in the rough stuff. I showed pity on my op'd wing and arms and called the sesh early. So sad to leave such great swell.

With the 0-30 NW forecast, a bit sceeered of the Singing Sands, so decided to just play out front.

Lots of screaming ( me and the foil) high speed runs, in a really big fishbowl- the whole Pt.Holmes bay. Gusty but generally manageable.

Arrived to no wind and some "should have been here earlier" stories. BWD said it was right around the corner and he was telling the truth; the bay started to fill in with a shift to a more W wind. Swell was excellent to merely good. Good to see lots of new foilers!

Swell’s dropped, but when you’ve got a foil, it barely matters. The surfers looked pretty defeated while me and a couple people from the hotel were out there having an absolute blast.

The wind was insane—8 knots, gusting to 30. I’ve honestly never experienced anything that gusty. Super technical, pretty chaotic… but weirdly fun.

Managed to snag a few, cutting it dangerously close in front of the rocks and linking through to the inside section. Proper adrenaline.

Average heart rate was around 152 f ... (more)
