A Reminder From the Wind Gods
Headed back out to the Hatchery a couple hours later, and things didn't go nearly as smoothly as the morning session.
Started with an immediate tangle and ended up paddling back to shore. In hindsight, I was probably overpowered anyway, so I swapped the 3.6m for the 3m and headed back out.
For whatever reason, everything felt harder. I struggled to get to my feet, struggled to get on foil, and never really found the rhythm I'd had earlier. Maybe the waves were more irregular ... (more)

Super nice day at Porteau. Eight wingers and a kite foiler were out at one point. The wind was up and down but the 4m seemed to be enough all day. Set a new personal best getting 12 tacks in a row. Next project is to learn how to flag out and surf/pump the little waves.

Hit the Hatchery today on my 3.6m Ozone and finally started putting together some really long glides. The small waves were super fun for linking sections and staying on foil.
Still can't properly stow the para wing yet.
Definitely making progress, but I need some lessons on stowing.
Fun day. Small steps, but the glides are getting longer and the addiction is getting stronger.

An early morning solo session well worth it. Hard to tell how much wind was on the outside but the 3.5 was the call. Great to have smooth waters with a nice friendly swell. Wind dropped at one point but came back for second go, helped by a bit of thermal. Kelp heads in random places, starting to rise up from the abyss.

Well, if yesterday was a little less than satisfying, today was a bottomless bag of salty potato chips- most excellent!
Nice solid wind, a little SW so manageable waves, sunshine, top ten!
Even got a couple of tacks.
Got a little crowded near the end though - 3 wingers and 1 kite - traffic jams ;-)

Poor start on RB morning sesh with no lift in the bay. Poper said wind was reducing as he deserted RB. I got up on a lucky gust but foil runs were intermittent and eventually non-existent. I decided to work on light wind take offs and test a bunch different DM methods. Suddenly, I got lucky on lift and was able to stay up for a while in a wind pocket off Clover and even play in some ankle biter swells. More kelp Klingons encountered and a full on takedown on my way out in my 2nd sesh. Even in the crappiest ... (more)

Morning cruiser session with jaw still dropped due to the new mast. The waves were decent outside the bay so I headed down towards Enterprise channel but turned around when it became sloppy with the strong ebb. After an hour the wind died. Debrief with Corked, C-Dolla, WindDoc and met visiting foiler Andrew all the way from Aotearoa NZ who'll be here in Vic for a few months. Gorgeous day!!

The 770 has become my favourite foil because it's so dang slippery and efficient. The new X mast pushes it into a different category altogether. Immediately the 770 felt so much more maneuverable, almost like the 680, but the low end was SO much lower, making getting onto foil almost as easy as the 970. The winds were incredibly marginal today and so many times I was sure I'd come off foil. This thing just kept going. My mind was legit blown. Excited to try it with the 970!

Looked like it was 4.5m, however lots of south and fickle. Schlogged out couldn't get going, turned and caught some wind and wave assist to fly inbound, turned and made 4 flying reaches up to Clover country...and then it tanked. Much fuckery and pumping in both directions, gave up gassed and sit schlogged back to the beach. Meh! Bleck! Crap! Should have heeded the little voice telling me to go big but nooo I didn't. Bad dog!

Arrived to a bit of rain. Then it cleared and mellow wind from 1:00 - 4:00 pm. Surprised how quickly you can plane on the 4.8m. It ramped up a bit so spent most of the time on the 4.0. Just BigD and M Perry on the lake with me. Still working on thewind-foil jibes. Feeling good sailing on foil.

Ding ding, round two.
But like the half full bag of chips, tasty, but not enough to quell the appetite - ie wind rebuilt, looked quite promising, out i went, but it just didn't have any oomph to it.

Quite nice SE session out front.
REALLY nice that the weed invasion seems to have eased a bit.
A few holes made for a arm workout pumping, but was able to stay on foil.
Hoping it rebuilds later for an evening go.

I only had an opening for a morning sesh and caps at RB at 8am were encouraging. But. by 10am, it was marginal. I went out in the empty bay with my 6 and med foil without lift. Finally lifted at wind line at Clover level and it was consistently strong 14-17kts. Good foilers could make 4 or 5m work. There were small smoothies and jumbled swell that was pretty fun to play in. Morre loose kelp that are now grabbing. Winds reduced as Colin and Twzr came out. Thanks....

A few swell when the wind was blowing and very few weeds. A blast came through that was probably 17 knots in the beginning but the rest was a disappointment with plenty of pumping when it was on at all.

First time back on the water since 2023. Went to see what China Creek was about. Met Paul at Wind Rider who said he just opened this week. He gave me the lowdown on the scene here. The wind started to come up mid afternoon so myself and the one other winger gave it a go. Nope, the wind just was too light. Got up once and planed a few hundred metres but that was it. Well, just happy to have washed the dust off my gear

Later start today, on the water at 12:30 but took 30 mins to get going on the 4.5m KT and 830cm2. BigD arrived and we foiled around the launch for awhile then wind picked up so we came in and rigged down. I took out the 3.5m KT Direct Drive which was perfect so we headed up the lake to play between the island and Knobson Point. Fun for 45 mins then wind died, CRAP!! After 30 mins of schlog, foil, pump like hell, schlog, repeat, there was enough gust to get up and going again. Wind stayed up so came in and p ... (more)

Fringe 4.5 delightful today, paradise spot in this steady wind to foil progress. Wing next trip, pooped today. OP start right down to next to nothing @end, still able to pump foil & board into flight. Promising stability, entries and good control into gybes, wish I’d had more tries, made a couple, all else very close. Sweet, best day foiling in a long while. Tried the 5.3, foiled for one run but that set just doesn’t operate below 10 knots. Jelly was the cheerleader

No sooner did it come up we had a cat-astrophe lol Tommy escaping killing the best 15 minutes of wind. After that I got a few short 5.3 planing rides but a big kite or at least the 5.9 would have been a better choice. Awesome weather, quiet, lush grass, nobody here, full mtn and fjord views were wicked. Gusted up again later for two more turns, then got funky. Love this spot but wind was light

Arrived at PL with WC packing up after holing his wing. Sad I missed some flight time with him, but I did get some nice passes with Juan, Adrian, Ozy, and other unknown foilers. 4.5m was an ideal choice to get through the holes while managing the gusts. Lots in the bay, there was the usual weirdness just before the marker, more steady winds with bigger swells outside. Chicken me stayed mainly inside and had a great time. PL playground!

Super fun light wind day at Jericho. Had much more success foot swapping. The tacks were not so reliable but I'll blame that on the chop and swell.
