Wind information for lower mainland / Vancouver area?

Unread post by sailor420 »

Hey all,

I live in North Vancouver, started windsurfing about two years ago.

Due to the abvaliability of information and my lack of knowledge, I feel constrained to Jericho and taking my chances at Porteau Cove. Once I went to Boundary Bay and the tide was so low I just gave up.

As it turns out my ability to windsurf is literally limited to my knowledge of local conditions.

Further, I use this page a whole lot to determine when and where to go windsurfing.
In fact I think I wouldn't even be able to windsurf without the 'Forecasts' resource from BWD.

I have done a lot of research but I feel like I always hit the same wall:
(1) locals tell me to extrapolate the possibility of wind by analyzing the forecast
(2) unreliable apps show innacurate atmospheric-level info, as opposed to local spot info. A good example is Squamish, where wind can be hitting 25 knots and a weather app will show 5 knots!

So in a nutshell wanted to ask folks around here if there is are actual forecasts or more resources on the following locations:
- Porteau Cove
- Harrison Lake
- Alta Lake
- Area around West Vancouver Yacht Club
- Deep Cove / Cates Park
